World Bank projects rice price
Switzerland News.Net Wednesday 21st May, 2008
World Bank officials are saying the price of staple foods such as rice could stay high for the next three years, pushing 100 million people back into poverty.
The officials say food shortages are not a short-term phenomenon and escalating global prices for corn, rice and wheat will spark further protests, especially in Asia.
In Asia, an international rice price of over 1,000 dollars a ton is causes extreme hardship because rice makes up one-third of the daily calorie intake of the typical household.
Food prices in US dollar terms were more than two-and-a-half times higher than in early 2002.
About 75 percent of the food price increases occurred over the past 16 months, and more than half in just over the last four months.

World Bank projects rice price
Our country the Philippines has been in debt for quite some time now and with all the corruption goinh on, I can hardly expect that our debts will be repaid.
But if only our country will concentrate on rice production, I believe half our troubles are over. Can you imagine a rice producing country sach as ours importing rice? What have the corrupt Malacanang officials been doing, stealing all the money they can lay their hands on? They should be put to the farms and made to produce more rice, rather than wear fancy clothes and report to fancy offices that doesn’t even earn an income! what a waste! and somebody better get rid of Gloria! the bad Mafia are using her to further their hold on our country! Pretty soon there’ll be nothing left to steal should these people are left unchecked!
