Roger Federer announced Sunday he will return to action at next month's Geneva Open in his native Switzerland.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner also confirmed he will compete in the French Open starting May 30.

Federer, 39, will skip two other clay-court events -- the ATP Masters 1000 events in Madrid (May 2-9) and Rome (May 9-16) -- in order to train.

Federer has not played since losing to Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in the quarterfinals at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha on March 11.

That tournament marked his first action since February 2020 following two knee surgeries.

"Can't wait to play in Switzerland again," Federer posted Sunday on Twitter.

The Geneva Open, an ATP Tour 250 event, was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament is scheduled for May 16-22.
