U.S. dollar rises broadly

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened broadly against major rivals in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, jumped 0.75 percent to 106.2410.

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.0175 U.S. dollars from 1.0257 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.2168 U.S. dollars from 1.2255 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar fell to 0.6925 U.S. dollars from 0.7022 U.S. dollars.

The U.S. dollar bought 132.97 Japanese yen, higher than 131.83 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.9570 Swiss franc from 0.9506 Swiss franc, and it was up to 1.2855 Canadian dollars from 1.2847 Canadian dollars.
