GENEVA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Swiss Pierre Ducrey has been appointed as the new Sports Director starting on July 1, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Monday.

Ducrey, former Olympic Games Operations Director, will succeed Kit McConnell, who is currently serving as Chief Sport Officer of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee.

Ducrey joined the IOC in 2003 from the United Nations in Geneva and began his career in the Sports Department of IOC. In 2010, he joined the Olympic Games Department and has been working on the delivery of the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games, the IOC said.

"I wish Pierre Ducrey every success. His experience within the IOC and the Olympic Movement, and expertise in planning and delivering the Games and in stakeholder management, will be invaluable in the further development of the activities of the Sports Department," IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper said in an IOC statement.
